Harrison

Harrison aims to create a vibrant and valued addition to the community of Marda Loop. Sarina Homes and the project design team are pleased to be developing another project aimed at fostering a dynamic urban environment while meeting the goals set out by council to achieve greater density in key locations.

As identified by the City of Calgary Main Streets initiative, the 33 Avenue corridor is envisioned as a key location for thoughtful densification with the goals of creating a vibrant public realm, providing a variety of retail and small business and increasing local services and housing choices. The scale and character of this proposal is consistent with these future goals, while simultaneously adopting design strategies to address and respond to the existing urban context.

The project proposes massing solutions that are responsive to the site, utilizing design strategies that provide key transitions to the surrounding context while maintaining important urban street edges. The proposed building mass has been carefully considered to minimize shadowing on adjacent sites, and the introduction of a partial 5th storey and a single storey amenity building adjacent to the laneway provides a sensitive height transition to neighbouring homes. The street edge along 33 Avenue has been articulated to provide both an urban pedestrian condition and address sight lines, creating an appropriately scaled corner plaza at the convergence of 33rd and 18th. Direct Live-work unit access on the ground floor has been designed to activate the street while a series of carefully considered design layers, including landscaping elements, provide both an element of privacy while and enhance the pedestrian experience.
