As a Registered Architect with over 24-years of experience working on projects across North America, Michael Farrar has garnered recognition for design excellence, sustainable design, and urban planning.
As a founding partner of FAAS, Michael brings his extensive knowledge to the firm, emphasizing the importance of project management and innovative design solutions. Michael began his architecture career by earning his Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies which propelled him to pursue his Master’s Degree in Architecture from Dalhousie University. Since then, Michael has been the project architect for prominent placemaking and transformative projects such as the award-winning Glacier Discovery Walk, Flights YYC, as well as the urban design winning FormShift Vancouver project and the Rosedale Affordable Housing project in Calgary. With this experience, Michael has been able to practice in public infrastructure and civic amenities, which has fostered close relationships and collaborations with authorities and community associations to help create and lead effective housing solutions within the city.
Michael is also an active member of many professional associations, including the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada, and he holds a LEED AP designation. At FAAS, Michael leads the design of projects, oversees project development including coordinating construction documentation, and collaborating with clients and regulatory authorities to realize the overall project vision.
Since starting FAAS in 2013, Michael takes great pride in the collaborations that have seen real change in the Banff Trail 24th avenue corridor planning as well as the recent and ongoing housing strategy work on missing middle. Besides his life running FAAS and being caught in phone calls all day, Michael enjoys being in the mountains with his kids, skiing, hiking and camping or spending a day in the woodshop crafting furniture.
