As a founding partner of FAAS, James is a visionary leader with a wealth of experience in architecture, urban planning, and project management. James received his Architectural Technology Diploma from SAIT before earning his Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Calgary. Since then, he has gained over 30 years of experience where he focuses on providing technical guidance and evaluation, preparing planning and construction documents, assists in overall quality control and provides reviews and assessments on project deliverables.
His extensive experience also spans into urban planning, transportation infrastructure, and large-scale architectural projects, where he engages with stakeholders to facilitate diverse and conflicting perspectives. With a background as a General Manager at a multi-family construction firm James has successfully overseen the development of over a 1000 units across Canada. He offers a unique financial perspective to all projects, where he practices decisive management principles to define and achieve goals. James has also been involved in heritage building preservation and sustainable design, where he holds a LEED AP designation, to deliver various sustainable and environmentally conscious projects. James is also an active member of many professional associations, including the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada, American Institute of Architects - International, and was a former board member of the Consulting Architects of Alberta.
FAAS was built with the intentions and vision of creating an impact within Calgary’s communities. This vision was first realized with FAAS’s first project and James’ favourite – Avenue 33, the 42-unit mixed-use development in the community of Marda Loop. Besides architecture and life at FAAS, James is obsessed with his family, food, and travel, but, and I quote “not particularly in that order”.
