Intermediate Architectural Designer

We are looking for an Intermediate Architectural Designer to join our team. We are growing, mid-sized firm located in Calgary with a focus on multi-residential projects situated throughout Alberta, BC and working our way into other provinces.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work independently and in a team to assist clients through the planning and creation of projects, managing project scope and schedules.
  • Prepare preliminary design studies and investigate alternative design schemes through drawing & modelling.
  • Prepare drawings for schematic design and design development.
  • Exercise creative judgment and design application skills in preparing client presentation materials, including design sketches, renderings, models and graphics.
  • Analyze codes, zoning and site plan requirements, and coordination of documents for permit application submissions.
  • Adhere to firm and project goals of excellence in design + execution.
  • Prepare basic technical drawings.
  • Support complex technical drawings.
  • Perform area calculations according to specified standards.
  • Perform site reviews, including survey of existing conditions and field measurements.
  • Support communication with clients, contractors, product suppliers and other design professionals and approving authorities.
  • Participate in peer-review process and mentor junior designers.
  • Organize and plan accordingly to execute tasks.
  • Self-checks work for accuracy, omissions, and legibility.
  • Advocate and inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
  • Oversee and participate in production of design award submissions.

WHAT’S REQUIRED:

 The Ideal candidate will have the following credentials:

  • A recognized degree in Architecture.
  • Intern Registration, or full Architect registration with the AAA.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a AAA Intern Architect working on various project types in Canada.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction and architectural practices including building materials, construction techniques, sustainability strategies, and other related engineering principles.
  • Experience with multi-use, multi-unit residential, industrial, and commercial projects.
  • Proficient In AutoCAD or Revit, Adobe software, SketchUp, and Revit
  • Construction site experience would be an asset.
